ABOUT SPARKLING DIAMONDS

Sparkling Diamonds is a unique community based netball club.

LOCATION

We are located at 3 Allen Avenue, Brooklyn Park, South Australia, 5032. The Brooklyn Park Church of Christ provides facilities and two courts for use.

HISTORY

It was formed in 2007 to give underprivileged and troubled children the opportunity to play netball and has since expanded to be a multicultural club with players from diverse backgrounds. There are migrants and refugees from over 22 different countries playing with the club.  Sport is a great leveller and bridges the gaps between these diverse groups and places these girls on the same side. Our vision is that all young people should have the opportunity to play netball.

SUNSHINE BUS

Thanks to the Variety Club of Australia, Sparkling Diamonds has its own Sunshine bus. The volunteer van drivers work four days a week transporting the girls from their homes, mainly in the Kilburn area, one of the most disadvantaged areas in Adelaide, to training and games.

SUPPORTIVE SPONSORS AND BENEFACTORS

The Club links in with community groups such as CareWorks, who assist with providing food and clothing Church of Christ at Brooklyn Park with whom the Club has a written agreement and has its home courts and clubrooms.
The Club relies on grants and donations, and receives some support from Hampstead Gardens Church.

VOLUNTEERS

Our club is run entirely through voluntary participants. We are always looking for coaches and umpires or those wanting to learn. Junior Umpires may join the SAUCNA orange armband program to help improve their umpiring. We are always looking for players of any age any background either with or without playing experience.

SCHOOLS

The Club works with several schools to coach their students at no cost to the school or students.
YOUTH AMBASSADOR PROGRAM
We have a program - Youth Ambassador, that is recognised by the Department of Education. Participants can earn up to 20 points in Stage 1 towards their final two school years marks by being part of this program.
